Good day to all,
As many of you know, I never made it out to Germany. While I was certainly looking forward to it, things really did not work out the way I intended them to... Then again, they seldom do.
I'm back to shooting on a regular basis, assuming that an average of once every three weeks qualifies as regular. It's much better than last summer and fall, mind you; I must have done a single shooting between May and November.
The fun part is that I finally got to meet
Delvida. For some reason, I was under the impression that she didn't care much about my style of photography or my pictures, but I was wrong. Our first shoot together was like courting in a sense that we tried to find common grounds to work with, and the outcome of the pictures is really great. The second shoot with her was also really good. I strongly suggest that you take a look at the pictures on her profile, she started posting some of them.
Ok, before anyone asks why I'm not posting them... I got it into my head that I only wanted to post series. Well, I've retouched 2 pictures from the first shoot and one from the second. That doesn't really qualify as a set, so I have yet to finish retouching a couple of them before I post, but it will come.
She's an absolute sweetheart. She's great to work with, she's fun and she's a photographer's dream come true. She comes prepared and whatever is needed to be done, she will take care of it; it could be makeup, hair, styling, you name it!
Since I was inactive for a while, I decided to work with non agency models in town to get back into it. Somehow, I think I will never learn from my mistakes. Following
Delvida's shoot, I booked a photography session with a model that I had worked with about 5 years earlier. The model shows up at the studio about half an hour late, makeup is barely done and she's carrying huge bags under her eyes. She says: "I barely slept 3 hours". It seems that she had a party the night before and she has to wake up early to have breakfast with her boyfriend's grandma. No comment...
Anyways, the shoot went to hell and I couldn't get a single clean shot. After an hour of trying, I put an end to the shoot and sent the model home. I did not even bother to look at the pictures, I simply deleted the memory card. Enough said.
After this, I completely reprinted my portfolio and went to see one of the bigger agencies in town here. Finally, I will give myself a chance to get quality models every time I shoot.
I find all this unfortunate because I will probably pass good opportunities to work with good non-agency models, but to be honest with you, my patience is seriously running out and if I'm not paid for it, I would rather give myself the best conditions to get good shots.
Of course, I am looking forward to my upcoming shoots. I have a big project in the works and I would love to see it go through smoothly. I am also looking forward to finishing up my retouching in order to re-book
Delvida for another shoot soon!
Oh, one final note... I had a chance to redo my website. Have a look and let me know what you think!
